The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), through its digitalPH program, initiated an Ideation Workshop for Eastern Visayas last August 30-31, 2019 in the University of the Philippines, Visayas Tacloban College. Students and professors from Eastern Visayas State University, UP Tacloban and ACLC Tacloban attended in the workshop.
The Rainmaker of region 8, Fernando “Evan” Quiroz introduced the concept of Startup which was followed by Ideation workshop. This ignited the creative and innovative ideas of the participants. To guide them in turning ideas into a sustainable business, the Lean Startup methodology was discussed by Atty. Rugy R. de Veyra, CEO and Co-Founder of zeend.com.
Among the emphases in the lean startup discussion were the validation of the Leap-of-Faith assumptions and the Build-Measure-Learn Feedback Loop. According to the speaker, this could prevent the startup from successfully achieving failure – building a product that nobody wants to use.
The enthusiasm of the participants in the workshop and during the pitching sessions clearly shows that Region 8 has hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Nurturing the startup ecosystem in the region will enable the young generation to dream big as entrepreneurs in the field of information technology. Cooperation among the government, academe and industry can make this dream a reality.
